Survivor’s New Planets Are Already A Massive Fallen Order Upgrade

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s trailer shows off how its new planets will branch out from the isolated wildernesses of Jedi: Fallen Order.

The latest trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor shows off several of its new planets, which appear to be a considerable upgrade from those in Jedi: Fallen Order. The locations in the first game were great, to be sure, and baked in much intrigue and depth. However, they lacked variety as they all took place in the planets’ wilderness. Fortunately, Jedi: Survivor looks to improve upon this significantly.

Jedi: Fallen Order featured eight total locations, most of which were characterized by their relative isolation. The planets are vibrant but are primarily populated by wildlife and Imperial forces. Despite noticeable lore differences, some of the planets can feel quite similar to each other aesthetically, like Bogano, Kashyyyk, and Zeffo, which was destroyed by the Empire. The vegetation and overgrowth of these locations make planets like Dathomir more exciting to visit, but more variety would have done Jedi: Fallen Order well, which is something Jedi: Survivor’s trailer teases.

Jedi: Survivor’s New Planets Look Like A Nice Change Of Pace

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s gameplay reveal trailer from EA Star Wars on YouTube showcases a few new planets the game will include. Some appear to follow suit with the wilderness focus of Jedi: Fallen Order, but on a much larger scale. Cal even recruits the wildlife to help him traverse the massive, seemingly semi-open world maps. He’s shown holding onto the talons of a pterodactyl-like creature as it soars through the sky and riding a bipedal animal. On the other hand, Jedi: Survivor looks like it will offer a welcome change of pace in the form of exploring cities and more urban environments, one of which is undoubtedly Coruscant. These areas may be explored in the company of Cal’s new Jedi: Survivor ally, Bode Akuna.

How Jedi: Survivor’s Planets Can Improve Upon Fallen Order’s

Jedi: Survivor’s new planets already appear to be improving upon its predecessor’s with their variety in level design. It may even rival the Knights of the Old Republic games in that regard, which featured a wide range of environments. It also looks like the gameplay in these areas will be much more diverse, with multiple traversal methods based on the type of location and many enemy types populating them. These upgrades alone will almost certainly set Jedi: Survivor’s planets above Jedi: Fallen Order’s, but there is more that the sequel can do to make its locations feel more unique and exciting.

Including more NPCs for Cal to interact with would make Jedi: Survivor’s planets feel more alive than its predecessors. Cal must undoubtedly be cautious since he is being hunted by the Empire and perhaps even by the new mystery character who may connect Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to the High Republic era. Now that Cal’s more comfortable with his Jedi identity, however, it stands to reason that he will be more willing to help those in need on the planets he visits. Besides giving a change of pace from fighting inhospitable wildlife, this detail is a straightforward way to implement side quests to the game while also showing off the civilizations and cultures that make Star Wars unique. More dynamic planets and characters with dialogue could also help Star Wars Jedi: Survivor feel more connected to the larger Star Wars universe.
