Rare video of a moose shedding its antlers leaves the Internet stunned

The video was shot in Alaska.

A rare video showing a moose shedding its antlers is going viral on social media. The clip was shared on Facebook by user Tyra Bogert. It showed a moose standing in perfect view of the camera and pausing for a moment before shaking its body like a dog and dropping its antlers from its head.

“Great to be on video! Moose dropping antlers at my house!” Bogert wrote in the caption of the post, which has garnered more than 316,000 views and more than 3,700 likes.

According to the New York Post, the video was shot in Alaska. It showed the moose’s antlers sticking straight out of his head. It also showed that the animal seemed startled by the loss and ran away quickly.

Netizens reacted quickly to the video. “Really cool, didn’t know they were dropping so fast lol,” one user wrote. “Wow!!! That was really cool!” said another.

A third Facebook user commented: “This is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.” A fourth added: “Wow! That’s great, I’m so jealous.”

Speaking to the outlet, Ms Bogert said she was staying at her sister’s house when she received a notification from her Ring camera about movement at her front door. She opened it immediately, after witnessing the moose shedding its antlers in real time.

Bogert revealed that the antlers were about 50 inches in diameter. She said she is now going to mount the antlers on one of her walls.

Meanwhile, according to the Yukon Wildlife Reserve, moose shed their antlers after mating season. Only male moose have antlers and their growth is regulated by testosterone.
